Scientific Evidence
CoQ10 is the key endogenous lipid-soluble antioxidant in the cardiovascular system. UBIAD1 has been identified as a non-mitochondrial CoQ10 synthase with specific cardioprotective functions.
In a 24-week study of 101 dyslipidemic subjects not on lipid- or glucose-lowering drugs, 120 mg CoQ10 daily vs. placebo further reduced blood pressure, total antioxidant capacity, triglycerides, and LDL-C, improving multiple CVD risk factors.
In a 12-month trial, 354 infertile men with idiopathic asthenozoospermia received 300 mg CoQ10 twice daily. Post-treatment sperm concentration, total count, and normal morphology significantly increased vs. baseline.
Reduced CoQ10 (CoQ10H2) is highly lipophilic and co-absorbed with fats; olive oil as the carrier improves redox status and lowers circulating oxidized CoQ10 percentage.
